TITAN GROUP AND WWF RUSSIA SIGNED A ROADMAP TO PRESERVE HIGH ENVIRONMENTAL VALUE FORESTS
Titan Group, the first forest user of Arkhangelsk region, has developed a roadmap to preserve high environmental value forests. The document has become an inherent part of the agreement with WWF Russia with participation of FSC™ Russia.
The respective Agreement was signed on December 30, 2019. General Director of Titan Holding Alexey Kudryavtsev and Director for the forest program of WWF Russia Andrey Schegolev signed the document.
The roadmap includes an activity schedule aimed to conserve a biological, landscape diversity and maintain a favorable environmental situation in Arkhangelsk region and in the areas under operative management of Titan Group, JSC “Arkhangelsk PPM” and CJSC “Sawmill-25”.
“In our view the agreement and the roadmap are a considerable step forward. For WWF Russia as such this is perhaps the first agreement with a timber company when we prescribe not only measures on conservation of valuable forests but also measures on transition to an intensive model of forestry” – Andrey Schegolev indicated.
The roadmap to preserve high environmental value forests is developed until 2028 and includes 24 areas leased by Titan Group.
The document contains such measures as expansion of existing state natural landscape reserves and creation of new especially protected natural areas.
In 2020, the Holding is going to prepare a proposal on establishment of borders of a state landscape reserve of a regional importance “Ship thicket”; it will conduct an environmental survey of the projected EPNA areas. The new reserve should appear in summer 2021. Another new reserve Sebbolto will be projected the same year. The protected status will be given to the swamp forest located in the interfluve of the Pinega, Kuloy and Mezen rivers.
The roadmap contains not only the measures to conserve natural areas but also to reduce pressure on the intact forest landscapes. For example, next year Titan Group is going to perform zoning of leased areas by intensity of forestry.
The modern model of forestry will be implemented as a pilot project in the area of Dmitrievsky LPH. It is planned to conduct forest management at the logging company on the area 232.2 thousand hectares as well as prepare specialists for work in accordance with federal standards. Then the intensive forestry model will be implemented in the leased areas of Dvinskoy-Vychegodsky forest landscape on the area up to 2.48 million hectares.
