TITAN HOLDING WILL FULLY COMPENSATE GREENHOUSE GAS EMISSIONS BY ABSORPTION DURING FOREST USAGE
Titan Group, the general supplier of pulpwood to JSC "Arkhangelsk PPM", as a responsible forest user performs various kinds of activity aimed at safeguarding and protecting the forests, reforestation, etc., which results in absorption of carbon dioxide (СО2) from the atmosphere and its sequestration in various pools of biomass – ground biomass, forest floor, soil.
The value of net-absorption of greenhouse gases (further herein - GHG) by forest ecosystems is defined as the sum of their absorption from the atmosphere and emissions into the atmosphere due to natural and anthropogenic processes ongoing in these ecosystems. At that GHG absorption is considered as anti-emission and written down with a negative sign whereas emissions with a positive sign.
According to ANO “Center for environmental investments», in 2019 net-absorption of carbon dioxide (СО2) by all the forest lots under operative management by Titan Group amounted to -216 700 t СО2-equiv.
Thus, GHG emissions from logging activities by Titan Group companies in 2019 (163 548 t СО2-equiv.) were fully compensated by GHG absorptions during forest usage (-216 700 t СО2-equiv.).
As earlier reported the holding for the first time among the Russian logging companies conducted inventory of greenhouse gases emissions.
In accordance with the adopted Climatic strategy till 2030 CJSC Sawmill 25, a member of Titan Group, will also continue its work on strategic planning and managing the GHG emissions, evaluation and management of climatic risks and possibilities. Including in 2021 the works on determination of GHG emissions reduction will be fulfilled for the period 2019-2020.
